Ethel serves as 'spokesdog' for us at Schultz Senior Dachshund Sanctuary, where our focus is on the safety and protection of SENIOR Dachshunds in need. Please follow us here on RescueMe.org for postings of dogs that need a second chance at the love they so deserve. Join us on Facebook, too! Better yet, why not consider fostering a dog for us? It is a great way to help safe the life of a dog. We can never have enough foster homes to save all of the lives that need saving. Fostering does not obligate you to adopt the dog; it provides a means of keeping a dog safe until a forever HOME can be found. Ethel was saved by such a foster offer. ...     Hello, my name is OLLIE, and I am seeking a forever home. I am in my golden years, and am rather selective about my new dwelling needs. I would like a quiet home environment, with someone who is home more than not. I like to be with my human, and hope that person will enjoy being with me just as much. SO--what I would really like to find is a retired person who can spend time with me and give me that undivided love and attention I need at this time in my life. I do enjoy sleeping in sunny windows, watching television and cuddling while my person reads. OH, did I mention I like to sleep with you, too? ONLY if you will have me, of ... (Read More)course.... If you think we could be a 'match made in Heaven,' contact my friends at Schultz Senior Dachshund Sanctuary. They love cats there too, and help older ones like me to find a second chance at love. I will be waiting for your call. LOVE, OLLIE (Less)

Once upon a morning dreary, a NJ veterinarian drove up to his office and alighted from his car. It was cold that particular morning; one of the coldest days of the year on record here in this state. As he proceeded up the short walkway to the office, he stopped in his tracks. Looking up at him from a box was a set of eyes; actually there were MANY eyes. A mother cat had been left on his doorstep during the night in a cardboard box. With her in that box were three kittens. Upset and angry, he carried the little family into his office. Using his expertise and great bedside manner, he warmed their little bodies from the frigid night they ... (Read More)must have spent outside. That particular night, there were no patients 'in-house,' so there had been no need to go back to the office to check on any surgical or ill patients. So the little family was not found as soon as it might have been found otherwise. Enter early morning patient and long-time client, our very own ELAINE. The kind veterinarian asked her to step back into the recovery room; those same little eyes all looked up at her with wonder. However, by this time, they were contentedly warm with full-bellies. The veterinarian asked her for help. Taking this little family to an animal shelter was not something he wanted to do. Thankfully, he is not the kind of vet that would consider the saddest of other options: euthanasia. SO....... ELAINE and her daughter TARA, both representatives and board members of Schultz Senior Dachshund Sanctuary, have been caring for this little family since that coincidental appointment weeks ago. Two of the kittens found homes via their hard work and networking. The photos you will see are of those left behind: Little Baby and Mother Cat. We are seeking a nice home or homes for each of them. They are both in good health. All vaccines and spaying services will be provided at no charge, by the kind veterinarian who found them. Please help us to find loving, caring humans who will love each of them and treasure them for the rest of their lives. To whom abandonment, cold, hunger and pain are considered unacceptable. A home where they know when they rest their pretty heads at night, they are loved. Truly loved. It is what we do here at Schultz Senior Dachshund Sanctuary, where we are friends to felines, too.
